1981 Bajaj Chetak for $1,000 in Detroit, Michigan

Here's a running Bajaj Chetak for a fair price. I actually like the old Bajaj scooters and I bought one last year. It's hard to tell how straight this thing is but it's definitely worth checking out. Here's the link and the photo. http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/mcy/1686318028.html

  1. I'm going to take a look at this today but don't really know how to assess the value. Any advice on what things to look for would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  2. I really can only say that it would be a steal at $800 and a great deal at $1,000 if the ad is accurate. The Bajaj Chetak is basically a Vespa Sprint. The major differences are the wiring on the Bajaj is pretty weird. The headset has that weird nipple speedometer. It also has a huge glove box which is great in my opinion. If you don't know much about scooters I suggest you bring someone who does if you can. You happen to have a great scooter club in Detroit which has allot of knowledgeable people in it. I would try asking one of them for help. Good luck!

  3. You need to look to make sure the frame is not cracked. The front forks are straight. The shifting is smooth. Make sure it kicks over and starts in a few kicks. Also, make sure it rides straight. Hope this helps. Check out your local scooter club. http://www.rovers-usa.com
